Research Projects

Topic: Efficient drying of Tenebrio molitor (mealworms) while preserving functional properties.

Explanation: As an alternative source of protein, insects offer many advantages. They can be raised in a space-efficient manner using less water, making them resource-efficient. In addition, they are ideal for utilizing waste, allowing high-quality protein to be extracted from organic kitchen waste and agricultural byproducts. One of the most energy-intensive processes in the production of insect protein is the drying process. The core objective of my project is to optimize this process in terms of energy consumption while simultaneously investigating how to adjust protein functionality to obtain a high-quality product.
