Mechanism of agglomeration in spray drying with the fine particle recirculation
The primary aim of this project is to determine experimentally and numerically the mechanisms which are responsible for agglomeration in spray drying with a return of fines to the drying chamber. In this context two main questions are: Which configuration of the spray dryer can lead to the production of large agglomerates with stable structures? Under which operating process parameters can such agglomerates be produced? To answer these questions, we will develop a superior prediction tool within a CFD framework by means of spatially and temporally resolved single droplet measurements and models of pilot-scale experiments.
